Clip recorder for Windows

The last minute,
one key away.

Klipp keeps what you just played in memory and saves it when you press Alt+F10, or on its own when you land a headshot or a multi-kill in Counter-Strike 2.

Klipp's on-screen indicator: auto-clips on

Why I built it

I play Counter-Strike 2 and send clips to my friends on Discord. The recorder I used did that well at first, but the longer it ran the more memory it took, desktop capture kept switching itself off, and clearing out old clips meant deleting them one by one.

So I wrote the recorder I wanted: one that can run all day and be the same size in the evening as in the morning, that keeps what I liked (auto-clips, separate game, chat and mic tracks, exports small enough for Discord), and that's free for everyone.

Why it's light

Built to run all day, and measured to prove it.

A replay recorder never stops, so every megabyte and every frame counts. These are numbers from real tests, not estimates.

Measured on a Ryzen 7 7800X3D with a GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, recording the desktop at 1440p and 60 fps in AV1 with three audio tracks and a save every 10 minutes. In Counter-Strike 2 with the graphics card at 70 to 86% load: 1,200 of 1,200 frames on time, 0.14% CPU. Your numbers depend on your PC.

Graphics card

Frames never leave the GPU

Capture, color conversion and encoding all happen on the graphics card. Raw frames never pass through your system memory.

Buffer

The buffer holds finished video

Klipp keeps encoded video, not raw frames, in memory it reserves once and reuses. It doesn't grow the longer it runs.

Saving

A save is a copy

A clip is cut from the buffer and written as an MP4 without encoding it again, so saving costs your game nothing.

Two programs

The window isn't always open

The recorder is a small native program in the tray. The library and editor start when you open them and close completely when you're done.

What it does

Record, find, trim, share.

Editor

Trim it while it plays

Waveforms for every track, markers for every kill, trim handles that snap. Turn a loud teammate down without touching the game audio. Trims and levels are remembered per clip.

The editor: setting the start and end while a clip plays, then muting a track

Share

Small enough for Discord

Export under 10, 50 or 500 MB, a high quality copy, or a lossless trim. It lands on your clipboard, ready to paste.

Audio

Game, chat and mic, apart

Each source can be its own track, plus a mixed one every player understands. Works with SteelSeries Sonar. Klipp keeps its own save sound out of your clips.

Replay buffer

Always the last 10 seconds to 5 minutes

Press the key a few times in a row and you get one clip with every press marked, not five overlapping ones.

Auto-clips

Headshots and multi-kills save themselves

2K to aces, knife and Zeus kills in Counter-Strike 2, through Valve's own Game State Integration. Events reach Klipp in 6 to 7 ms. Nothing touches the game, so it's safe with VAC.

On screen

Know it's recording, mid-match

Optional marks on top of your game when a match starts and when a clip saves. They never show up in your clips.
